Dufarge is a project initiated by a couple of Rotterdam based guys [Ties, Niels and Hugo]. The project is heavily influenced by the skateboarding background of the founders, a love for all things analogue and the juxtaposition of being surfers in a country that lacks proper waves.

Dufarge is about giving back. Growing up in subcultures that revolve around a healthy dose of do-it-yourself-lo-fi-attitude inspired the boys to set up shop and to start creating the things they like. Apart from this Dufarge is a great excuse to hook-up with (old) friends to work on nice stuff and to jointly pull some creative magic tricks.

In short: Dufarge is about you and your friends building your first jump ramp. There might be a nail sticking out somewhere but hey, who cares? At least you built it yourself!

Today the Dufarge product ranges from shirts and surf bags to handmade (limited and numbered) posters. Check out the website for the first range of skatedecks and keep and eye on the web-shop for hooded sweatsshirts, handmade wintergloves and the next batch of t-shirts.

Scroll down for my favorite shirt and the new skatedecks, check Dufarge for more shirts and hit the boys up on their Facebook page.

The Threatened Swan By Jan Asselijn

An allegory is a device used to present an idea, principle or meaning, which can be presented in literary form or in visual form, for example in a painting. The Threatened Swan by painter Jan Asselijn, is one of the most beautiful paintings I have ever seen!

The Threatened Swan
A larger than life swan lifts itself with threatening, out-stretched wings. Hissing fiercely it defends its nest against the approaching danger: the dog swimming in from the right. The dog seems to have designs on the eggs in the nest. The movement of the swan is extreme; its feathers fly up around it. The painter Jan Asselijn has convincingly depicted this spectacle, it looks just like a swan rising up in sudden anger. Through using a low viewpoint he has made the swan tower above its surroundings. This makes the scene even more impressive.

Symbolism/Allegory
The black dog in this scene can be seen as evil threatening the innocent (symbolised by the white swan). Whether or not the painter intended this is not certain. However, later owners of the painting did see the symbolism. They added the inscription: ‘the enemy of the state’ next to the dog, ‘the pensionary’ beside the swan and ‘Holland’ beside the threatened eggs. The texts refer to pensionary Johan de Witt, who defended Holland against the enemy, England.

Jan Asselijn (after 1610-1652)
Jan Asselijn’s background was French. In 1621 he moved with his family from Dieppe to Amsterdam. With Jan Both and Jan Baptist Weenix, Asselijn was one of the foremost Dutch Italianate painters. He lived and worked in Rome for seven years, from 1635, where he was a member of the so-called ‘schildersbent’ society of Northern European artists. Asselijn’s nickname at the time was ‘krabbetje’, because of his crippled right hand. Asselijn painted mainly landscapes with ruins, shepherds and animals, panoramas, harbours and riverscapes. After returning to Holland in the 1640s, Asselijn continued painting Italianate canvases. In addition, he also began painting Dutch subjects, using the golden light of Italy.

Our brother Sef just dropped his EP called ‘De Leventje’, which means ‘The Little Life’ (not sure if this is translatable). Anyways, ‘De Leventje’ is an amazing piece of art and on constant repeat. The productions are inspired by Disco, Electronic and 80′s Pop music, which fits Sef’s lyrics about the nicer things in life like a glove! Don’t let the Dutch lyrics stop you from downloading the EP. Music is universal and the productions will definitely move you!

Download: Sef – De Leventje EP

The first single/video: De Leven

De Leven is the official theme song of Rabat, the debut film from Habbekrats. Just like the film, the music video was shot in Morocco, the land of Sef’s father. Unfortunately he can’t be part of Sef’s success anymore which gives the video something melancholic.

Sneakersnstuff teamed up with ASICS to create a runestone inspired ASICS GT-II, an exciting sneaker which brings together Japanese and Swedish design.

Sneakersnstuff (Stockholm) has dominated the Scandinavian sneaker scene since 1999. For the first time, Sneakersnstuff teamed up with ASICS to create a runestone inspired ASICS GT-II, an exciting sneaker which brings together Japanese and Swedish design.

The shoe is inspired by the runestones erected by the Vikings all over The Mälaren Valley in Sweden in the fourth century. The Vikings used these stones to mark out their territory and honour their families, and they were regarded as symbols of power and glory. The founders of Sneakersnstuff grew up in this region, and therefore have a strong affinity with these runestones

Sneakersnstuff chose to restyle the GT-II, as it has been the founders favorite model ever since it was first launched back in 1986. The GT-II was the first ever running shoe to feature ASICS innovative GEL technology for maximum shock absorption, comfort and performance. The new collaborative design features colors taken from original runestones, while the material itself also has a stone-like finish. However, what makes this model particularly unique is the rune-style lettering running along the iconic ASICS stripes.

The ASICS GT-II Stone/Stone will be available at Sneakersnstuff from June 18th: in store as well as online. The rest of Europe (e.g. Colette, Hanon, Patta, WoodWood and 24 Kilates) will follow with the release on the 25th of June.

What’s the what? Giant Tiger Hooch?

HOOCH (noun) – an illicitly distilled (and usually inferior) alcoholic liquor

76 Giant Tiger Hooch is an Amsterdam based Rhythm & Blues ensemble that is playing their ‘signature’ rattling sound and catchy songs in small cafes, small music venues and community centers since 2009. With ex-members of bands like Satellite7 and Benjamin Winter & The Make Believe there is enough experience in the band to take off big time. Instead, the band wants to continue to play small gigs only and take the time to write and release new songs.

In short: ‘Expect no genius new hip thing and no big guns, just expect nothing and enjoy it while it lasts!’

Patta and longtime collaborator Kangol once again engage in a special headwear project for Spring/Summer 2011, introducing the “Summer of Love” collection. This endeavor utilizes a staple in the range for decades and delivers a set of Kangol’s famed bell shaped Bermuda Casual hats, the original classic sported from the streets to the beach.

The Patta x Kangol Bermuda Casual hats are knitted in Kangol’s proprietary bouclé yarn, treated with special processes before they are blocked. This gives the hat a soft and rich hand-feel for extra wearing comfort. The hats will be available in 3 colors: black, red and beige, all with contrasting top buttons and embroidered Kangol and Patta logo’s.

The Patta Spring/Summer 2011 collection just hit stores. Next to new graphic cotton shirts and snapback hats they present a clean cut jacket and striped knit. Great summer stuff which will be sold out before you know it, so don't wait too long and start supporting!

Patta presents it’s first collection for Spring/Summer 2011.
The collection focuses on the clear and bold Patta sensibilities combined with clean cuts. The Nena Cory sweater features striped color blocking, knitted from premium quality lambswool. The light cotton Burback Jacket is styled in a regular fit with side pockets, ribbed cuffs and small chest logo. The modest exterior is contrasted with a bright animal alphabet lining.

Alongside the key staples, there is also an assortment of cotton t-shirts: The Patta Logo-shirt executed in various pastel colors and 2 new styles featuring a Light Script-logo and allover graphic-print. The collection is completed with a set of embroidered Patta snapback hats. The images also give a small preview of the Patta G&V Chino Pant and Hartt Work Pant to be released Autumn 2011.
