ASICS Surface Series (Directional Level)

I am always excited when trainers I have worked on hit the streets. Just to make it clear, the green one isn't inspired by the Home Grown Air Max, even though Sef worked on both shoes. Please read about our source of inspiration below!

ASICS is now set to launch two new versions of the GEL-Lyte Speed called the Surface Pack. Inspired by the outdoors, both shoes feature things a runner is likely to come across when out and about. One of the models is grey to represent the colour of the road, and has touches of red and white for a road-sign look and feel, while the other has a more off-the-beaten-track style, with green to represent grass, and a mud-splashed sole and lace design. A nice pair of spare laces are included. The European release will be in the week of 15 december and both of them will drop in limited quantities!

Cover Artwork By MACHINE

Our friend Nalden uploaded the entire cover art catalogue by Amsterdam based design team MACHINE. The gallery counts 151 covers and most of them have been made for Dutch record label Kindred Spirits. Next to Hotel and Parra, MACHINE played a big role in contributing album cover artwork on a national and international level. Artists like Rich Medina, Carl Craig, Jneiro Jarel, Kid Sublime, Dorian Concept and Recloose, have been fortunate to get a MACHINE cover.

Dutch Tunes: TopNotch

TopNotch is the Royal Warrant Holder when it comes to Dutch HipHop music. You can compare them to Death Row Records without Suge Knight being in charge and with love for music in general. This love for music in general is the reason that TopNotch recently started positioning itself more as a progressive record label!

Next to bringing exciting music, TopNotch is also known for their cinematic music videos which are often made by our friends from Habbekrats Reclame.

It feels like forever since the last Sneaker Freaker footwear project. As is the case with these things, months come and go and before you know it, time has drifted by like red desert sand through the hourglass. When New Balance tapped Sneaker Freaker for a shoe, it’s fair to say they were rather chuffed. Sneaker Freaker was also feeling the classic sophomore pressure – what could they possibly do to top the Blaze of Glory project?

Real Time

A couple of weeks ago, I visited Inside Design Amsterdam and saw the Real Time installation by Maarten Baas. I was blown away by the project and wanted to share my experience with the Endorsed readers.

In Real time, the experience of time is the focus of attention. Four film clocks with the names Grandfathers Clock, World Clock, Sweepers Clock and Analog Digital clock, indicate the time with the help of film images: filmed people represent the time. They replace the function of the clock face and influence the display of time, by drawing the clock hands for example, and adjusting these every minute. With the human timepiece, Baas wishes to give an idea of how time passes, what people can do with it, and how endless time is.

Theo Ligthart is an amazing Berlin based Dutch artist and the creator of Das Korn, a grain spirit similar to Vodka. What started as a creative process ended as a beautiful product which has been nominated for "Spirit Of The Year 2009" at the Mixology Bar Awards 2009.

I was doing some research on H.P. Berlage, an influential Dutch architect, who designed some important buildings in my neighbourhood. Coincidentally I found out that he worked as a bookbinding designer from time to time.

I switched from Berlage to the history of bookbinding and found out that the Dutch bookbinding designs from the period 1890-1940 are famous graphic masterpieces!

Some important Dutch bookbinding designers were, Hendrik Petrus Berlage, Jan Toorop, L.W.R. Wenckebach and Gerrit Willem Dijsselhof. Personally I like the graphic bookbinding designs of Jan Toorop, which designed a lot of books for Louis Couperus, one of the most important Dutch writers ever lived!

FFFlexican's Shirt Is BBBack!

Last year I already told you that we were actually forced to do an update about the return of the notorious Maffia Clothing crime organization. Well this year they finally got their hands on Endorsed crew member aka the best DJ of the world, The Flexican!

Maffia Clothing forced Flexican to do a re-run of his iconic FFFFFlexican shirt which of course has been produced by these Italian mobsters! We are not sure if these colours are based on the Mexican flag (Mexico is Flexican's country of birth) or on the colours of the famous Italian Tricolore!

From October 17 through October 25, 2009, Eindhoven presents the eighth edition of Dutch Design Week, the largest design event in the Netherlands.

Eindhoven's finest/extraordinaire store, Dings, will be one of the Dutch Design Weeks participants!
Dings tells the story of the contemporary function of the racing bike in a mash-up exhibit! Old versus new, retro versus urban, function versus fashion hype, sports versus hobby. Courier or Hipster? Fixed gear or singlespeed? Track riding or bike polo?
